Male Elephants Cornered in Kanakapura Region

Male Elephants Cornered in Kanakapura Region

In the Kanakapura region, 41 male elephants have formed groups to raid crops in farm fields.

These elephants are cornered by two major roads, NICE and Mysuru-Bengaluru Expressway, which limit their movement to other areas.

One notable elephant, named Rowdy Ranga, was known for leading raids and was later captured and died after being hit by a bus.

The concentration of male elephants in this region affects their gene pool and increases fights among them, leading to more man-animal conflicts.

The areas of Magadi, Channapatna, and Ramnagar have patches of forests and farm fields, making them attractive for these elephants to raid crops at night and settle during the day.
