Delhi Court: Pregnant Minor to Give Birth, Child for Adoption
A young girl, who was unfortunately raped and whose parents are not around, is pregnant.
She asked the court if she could end the pregnancy.
However, the doctors said it's too late and could be dangerous to her health.
The court also asked the girl's guardian (who is also the mother of the person accused of the rape) if they could agree to keep the baby.
She agreed.
The court wants to make sure the girl is safe and the baby will be given up for adoption.
A 14-year-old rape survivor, abandoned by her parents, initially sought to terminate her pregnancy.
The survivor's aunt, the mother of the alleged rapist, is her legal guardian.
The Delhi High Court deemed the child in need of care and requested a Child Welfare Committee (CWC) report.
Medical examination indicated a 30-week pregnancy, making termination unviable due to health risks.
The survivor and guardian agreed to continue the pregnancy and give the child up for adoption.
