34 Udan Routes Discontinued in Uttar Pradesh
The Udan scheme in India aims to connect smaller cities and regions by air.
Recently, 34 routes in Uttar Pradesh were stopped before their planned end because they weren't performing well.
The government says these routes might be considered again in the future.
They also launched a new phase of the scheme with more money to build heliports in hilly and northeastern areas.
The scheme helps airlines by giving them financial support for up to five years, but they have to eventually become self-sufficient.
Some airlines faced penalties for not meeting performance targets.
34 Udan routes in Uttar Pradesh discontinued before completing their 3-year VGF support tenure.
14 penalties imposed for short performance during 2024-25 and 2025-26.
679 Udan routes operationalized since inception, with 348 currently operational.
Government encourages state governments to prioritize discontinued routes for future phases.
Second phase of Udan scheme launched with Rs 28,840 crore outlay, including Rs 3,661 crore for 200 heliports.
