Acquitted Brij Bhushan Singh set for BJP political return
Some women wrestlers said that a very powerful wrestling leader named Brij Bhushan Singh was not nice to them, so many famous wrestlers protested to ask for justice.
He was a strong leader in India's government and its wrestling federation.
After a long time, a court said he did nothing wrong and cleared him of the accusations.
His supporters were very happy and said 'the truth has triumphed.'
Now people think he might come back to politics and try to win an election in 2029.
Because of the accusations, his party picked his son instead in the last election, and his son won anyway.
Now that the case is over, leaders in his party say they are glad to have him back and will listen to his advice.
He is planning a big rally on August 7 in Gonda to show that he still has many supporters.
A court acquitted former BJP MP and ex-Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment charges brought by six women wrestlers.
The acquittal is expected to pave the way for his return to active politics under the BJP, with a close aide saying he will contest the 2029 Lok Sabha election.
At a 'sneh milan' in Noida, posters of Singh and his sons carried the slogan 'satya ki jeet hui' (the truth has triumphed), and a 'Satyamev Jayate' rally is planned for August 7 in Gonda.
In 2023, top Indian wrestlers staged a months-long protest in Delhi demanding his arrest and removal from WFI; Delhi Police filed a chargesheet after the Supreme Court intervened.
BJP replaced him with his son Karan Bhushan Singh in 2024, who won Kaiserganj by 1.48 lakh votes, while Brij Bhushan had retained the seat by 2.61 lakh votes in 2019.
Brij Bhushan is a six-time MP, elected five times on a BJP ticket and once as a Samajwadi Party candidate.
The party kept its distance from Singh after the allegations, largely keeping him away from organisational meetings and campaigning outside Kaiserganj.
