Jharkhand HC Directs DGP to File Affidavit in Fake Naxal Case
The Jharkhand High Court has asked the state's top police officer, the DGP, to file an official statement in a case about innocent tribal people being wrongly said to have given up being Naxalites.
The court thinks important cases like this need top officials to be involved.
Right now, a lower-ranking officer has filed the statement, which the court doesn't think is good enough.
The case is about a 2014 event where many people were said to have given up being Naxalites, but some say these people were actually innocent.
Jharkhand High Court directed the DGP to file an affidavit in a PIL about alleged fake surrender of tribals as Naxals.
The court observed that sensitive matters require affidavits from senior officials.
The affidavit was initially filed by a DSP-ranking officer, which the court found insufficient.
The PIL alleges that innocent tribals and villagers were falsely implicated as Naxals in a 2014 surrender event.
Around 300 people surrendered before the then Union home minister, P Chidambaram, in Ranchi in 2014.
