Uttarakhand Pays Rs 12,000/Month for Sheltering Stray Cattle

The Uttarakhand government has started two new programs to help take care of stray cows and bulls.

One program, called Gram Gaur Sevak Yojana, pays people to take care of up to five male stray animals.

They get Rs 80 for each animal every day, which adds up to Rs 12,000 a month if they take care of five animals.

Right now, six people in Pithoragarh district are doing this.

The other program, called Gaushala Yojana, lets people take care of any number of stray animals in cow shelters.

There are two cow shelters in Pithoragarh where 225 stray animals are already being taken care of.

These programs help keep the animals safe and also protect crops from being eaten by stray animals.
