Godrej Agrovet Aims Big Expansion for Oil Palm Plantations
Godrej Agrovet, a company that grows oil palms, wants to plant a lot more trees.
They plan to add 60,000 hectares of oil palm by 2030.
A big part of this will be in the north-eastern states of India.
The company currently has 70,000 hectares of oil palm plantations.
Godrej Agrovet helps farmers by providing saplings and support.
The government helps too, with subsidies for things like watering the plants and fertilizer.
It takes about three years for the trees to start producing fruit.
Farmers can grow other crops, like corn, between the oil palms.
Although the first few years can be difficult, the company provides solutions and support to encourage farmers to shift to oil palm.
