Sebi plans securities lending revamp, corporate bond tokenisation pilot

Sebi is the group in India that watches over the stock market and keeps it fair and safe.

It has written a big report about things it wants to do in the future.

One idea is to make it easier for people who own shares to lend them to others for a little money.

This is called securities lending and borrowing.

Right now, this system is old and not as good as systems in other countries.

Sebi thinks it can be improved so prices are more fair.

Sebi also wants to try a new computer trick called tokenisation.

This would turn corporate bonds into digital tokens on a special kind of record called distributed ledger technology.

That could make buying and selling faster and safer.

It could also let computers do some of the work automatically.

Sebi is starting with a small test project to see if this digital way of doing things works well.
