Canada Warns Two Khalistan Supporters of Imminent Life Threats
Canadian police warned two Sikh men that someone might try to kill them.
The men support the idea of Khalistan, an independent Sikh nation.
One of them helps organize votes where supporters can express their opinion about Khalistan.
Police said the threats were serious and could happen soon.
They did not say that the men’s families or friends were directly threatened.
The warnings came after another Khalistan supporter, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, was killed in Canada in 2023.
Canada has accused Indian government agents of being connected to that killing, but India denies the accusation.
Four Indian citizens are on trial in Canada over Nijjar’s killing, while US authorities have separately charged two alleged gang figures in organized-crime cases that include allegations related to Nijjar.
Canadian police warned Inderjeet Singh Gosal and Manjinder Singh of credible, serious and imminent threats to their lives.
The two men were told they could be harmed during attempted assassinations, but police said their families and friends were not specifically threatened.
Gosal coordinates non-binding referendums held by Khalistan supporters, who seek an independent Sikh nation separate from India.
The warnings follow the 2023 killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia; four Indian citizens face trial in Canada.
Canada previously alleged links between Indian government agents and Nijjar’s killing, while New Delhi rejected the allegations; US authorities later charged Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar in related organized-crime indictments.
