Rupee rises 14 paise against US dollar
The Indian rupee went up a little bit against the US dollar on Tuesday.
It started at 89.98 and ended at 89.84.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) helped it go up by selling dollars.
The rupee has been going down a lot this year, about 5%, making it the worst-performing currency in Asia.
The RBI has been trying to help the rupee, but it's been hard because of things like higher oil prices and money leaving the country.
The rupee even reached a record low of 91.07 on December 17.
Other Asian currencies like the Indonesian rupiah and Philippine peso also fell, but some like the Japanese yen and Chinese renminbi did better.
A weak rupee can be good for exporters but makes things more expensive for regular people.
The big question now is whether the rupee will get stronger or stay weak.
The rupee rose 14 paise to close at 89.84 against the US dollar on Tuesday.
The RBI's dollar selling and strong industrial output numbers supported the rupee's rise.
The rupee has depreciated around 5% in 2025, making it Asia's worst-performing currency.
The RBI has been intervening to support the rupee but faces challenges from higher oil prices and foreign outflows.
Experts expect the rupee to remain under pressure until a trade deal with the US is signed.
