BJP's First Mayor in Mumbai 40 Years Ago
A long time ago, in 1982, a man named Dr Prabhakar Sanjiv Pai became the first mayor of Mumbai from the BJP party.
This happened because of some big changes in politics after a time called the Emergency.
The BJP was still new then, and they got a chance to have a mayor because of some agreements with another political group.
Dr Pai was a doctor and did many good things for the city, like helping poor people get cheap food.
He also went to important meetings around the world.
Later, he left politics but kept doing good work by helping people through education and charity.
He passed away in 2020, and people are still remembering him today.
Dr Prabhakar Sanjiv Pai was the first BJP mayor of Mumbai, serving from 1982 to 1983.
His mayorship came about due to political shifts post-Emergency and the Janata Party's dominance in the 1978 elections.
Pai was a doctor and had a long career in municipal politics before joining the BJP in 1980.
As mayor, he represented Mumbai internationally and initiated the Zhunka Bhakar Trust for subsidized food.
After politics, Pai focused on education and charity, founding the Janata Education Society and Janata Seva Sangh.
