Google Maps Labels Lake Ontario Lake America for U.S. Users

Google Maps is showing a new name, “Lake America,” to people using the app in the United States.

People in Canada will still see “Lake Ontario.”

People in other countries will see both names.

President Donald Trump ordered the U.S. name change.

Google said it follows names in the U.S. Geographic Names Information System.

The U.S. order does not control what Canada or other countries call the lake.

Canadian leaders and some U.S. governors said they would keep using “Lake Ontario.”

The disagreement is happening while the United States and Canada are arguing about trade and tariffs.

Apple Maps was still showing no “Lake America” label when one report checked it.
