Citizen Urges Action on Mangrove Protection in Panvel
A citizen activist in Panvel, Maharashtra, has been trying to get the local government to protect mangroves and build facilities for animals and birds.
They first wrote to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in 2022, and the PMO told the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) to do something about it.
The PMC started building a crematorium for animals and birds, but the mangrove protection part is still not done.
The activist kept asking, but the person in charge was moved to a different job, so nothing happened.
Now, there's a new person in charge, and the activist is asking again for the mangroves to be protected.
They even sent copies of the PMO's letters to the new chief to make sure they know it's important.
Citizen activist approached Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) to act on mangrove protection and facilities for animals and birds.
Issue was first raised with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in 2022, which acknowledged the complaint and issued instructions to PMC.
Work on the animal and bird crematorium has begun, but mangrove protection remains unresolved despite repeated follow-ups.
Previous municipal commissioner was transferred, leaving the matter unanswered.
Activist resubmitted PMO correspondence to the new PMC chief, urging a time-bound decision on mangrove protection.
