Iran's Araqchi to Visit Beirut After Lebanese Minister Declines Tehran Trip
The foreign minister of Iran, Abbas Araqchi, is going to visit Beirut in Lebanon.
This happened because the Lebanese foreign minister, Youssef Raji, said he couldn't go to Tehran for a meeting.
Raji explained that the situation in Lebanon right now doesn't allow him to travel, but he still wants to talk to Iran.
Araqchi accepted the invitation to go to Beirut and said he understands why Raji can't come to Tehran.
Raji also talked about how Lebanon wants to have good relations with Iran based on respect and not interfering in each other's affairs.
He mentioned that a strong country should be the only one with weapons, which might mean he wants groups like Hezbollah to give up their arms.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi will visit Beirut after Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Raji declined to travel to Tehran.
Raji cited 'current conditions' as the reason for not visiting Tehran but emphasized no rejection of dialogue.
Araqchi accepted the invitation to Beirut and found Raji's position 'bemusing', stating that foreign ministers with full diplomatic relations do not need a neutral venue to meet.
Raji stressed Lebanon's readiness to open a new phase of relations with Iran based on mutual respect, sovereignty, and non-interference.
Raji's statement about the government holding the exclusive right to bear arms appears to reference calls to disarm Hezbollah.
