Election Commission Reports 2.73 Crore Gen Z Voters Added
The Election Commission says many young people were added to voter lists.
It counted 2.73 crore people between 18 and 28 years old.
Some were voting for the first time, while others had their voter records added or updated.
Some reports said young people could not register because an annual list update had not happened.
The Commission disagreed with that claim.
It said people can apply to become voters throughout the year.
People who turn 18 on January 1, April 1, July 1, or October 1 can apply using Form 6.
The Commission said these additions show that young-voter registration continued during the 2025 revision exercise.
The Election Commission says 2.73 crore voters aged 18 to 28 were added to electoral rolls since the 2025 Special Intensive Revision began.
The figure includes first-time voters and young electors whose existing registration details were later added or updated.
Reports had suggested young-voter enrolment was effectively paused because the annual Summary Revision was not conducted.
Officials said continuous updating allows eligible citizens to register outside revision exercises through Form 6.
The enrolment took place alongside elections, including Bihar’s November 2025 polls and Assembly elections in five other jurisdictions.
