India’s Data Centre Sector Draws Massive Investment Projections

India’s Data Centre Sector Draws Massive Investment Projections

India wants to build many more places where computers store and process information.

These places are called data centres.

Minister Piyush Goyal said the industry could attract at least $200 billion in investment.

Some industry participants believe the opportunity could be much larger, possibly $700–800 billion.

Cloud computing and artificial intelligence are creating strong demand for data centres.

Companies say India has relatively low infrastructure and operating costs, but it still needs more reliable electricity, suitable land and skilled workers.

Government and industry representatives are working on faster approvals and better infrastructure.

A new building code now includes rules specifically for data centres.
