India Urges Overhaul of Energy Data Systems for Climate
India’s government experts say the country’s energy data is broken up and missing important pieces.
They want to put all the data together in one big, up‑to‑date system.
This would help the government make better plans for clean energy and climate protection.
The committee says the new system should follow international rules and be run by the Ministry of Statistics.
It will also track things like electric cars, biofuels, and coal imports more carefully.
Expert committee chaired by Dr Rangan Banerjee calls for integrated energy data system.
Current data gaps include biofuels, EV sales, imported coal, and off‑grid power.
Panel recommends real‑time, harmonised framework and adoption of IEA/UN standards.
Mospi to coordinate, with annual state and Union Territory databases.
Unified system aims to improve climate reporting and energy transition planning.
