Eurozone Inflation Hits Three-Year High as Energy Costs Surge

Prices in the eurozone rose much faster in September than in August.

Inflation reached 3.8%, which is the highest level in three years.

This was higher than experts had expected.

Energy prices were the biggest reason for the increase.

Energy inflation rose to 18.8%.

Prices excluding food and energy also increased slightly.

The European Central Bank wants inflation to stay near 2%.

The new figures may make it harder for the bank to decide what to do with interest rates.

Markets are considering whether the bank could raise rates again before the end of the year.
