BMC Begins Evacuating Families From Landslide-Prone Ashok Nagar in Mumbai

Sometimes, when heavy rain falls, big piles of dirt and rocks slide down hills.

This is called a landslide, and it can be very dangerous.

A landslide happened in a place called Ashok Nagar in Mumbai, and eight people sadly died.

The city government, called the BMC, wants to keep people safe.

It has asked families living near the unstable hill to move to safer places.

Some families said yes and moved to a school that has been turned into a temporary shelter.

But other families said no and want to stay in their homes.

The BMC put up warning signs before the rainy season and keeps asking people to leave.

The ground there is not stable, so officials worry another landslide could happen.

They are trying their best to help everyone stay safe.
