BMC clears Mulund plot lease for Adani Dharavi project

BMC clears Mulund plot lease for Adani Dharavi project

The city of Mumbai has a big plan to rebuild a place called Dharavi and give people better homes.

To help with that construction, the city government gave permission to a company to use a big piece of land in Mulund.

That land used to be a dumping ground where garbage was thrown.

The company, called NMDPL, will use the land to make concrete and other building materials.

NMDPL is mostly owned by Adani Properties, while the city's Slum Rehabilitation Authority owns a smaller share.

The company has to pay rent to use the land for five years.

It will pay a large amount in advance and then pay rent every month.

The rent will go up a little bit every six months.

Some people in the city government are unhappy about this decision.

They think public land should not be given to a private company without a fair bidding process, and they worry it could set a bad example.
