Thailand's People's Party leads polls ahead of election
In Thailand, there's an upcoming election on February 8, 2024.
The People's Party, which is progressive and has a lot of support from young and city people, is leading in the polls.
They want big changes in the country.
The current prime minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, is trying to stay in power, but it's looking tough for him.
Another party, Pheu Thai, which used to be very popular, is now in third place.
There's a lot of history and disagreements between these parties, which might make it hard to form a new government.
The People's Party's leader, Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, is the top choice for prime minister in the polls.
The election was called early by Anutin after less than 100 days in office, during a time of political uncertainty and a conflict with Cambodia.
Thailand's progressive People's Party leads in polls ahead of the February 8 election, with 34.2% support in one poll and 30.5% in another.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's Bhumjaithai party is second, with 16.2% and 22.3% support in the respective polls.
Pheu Thai, once dominant, is third with declining support, at 16.0% and 15.4% in the polls.
People's Party leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut is the top choice for prime minister, with 32% and 24.7% support in the polls.
Anutin called a snap election on December 12, 2023, after less than 100 days in office, amid political turmoil and a border conflict with Cambodia.
