CRS blames railways for deploying unfit driver in Chhattisgarh train crash
A big train crash happened in Chhattisgarh on November 4, 2025.
The investigation found that the person driving the train, called the loco pilot, was not fit for the job.
He failed a test that checks if someone can drive the train safely.
The report said he didn't know important safety rules and had to call his boss for help while driving.
The investigation also found that the train company didn't follow the rules when they gave the loco pilot a certificate saying he was fit to drive.
The report suggests that the train company should use a special system to help prevent crashes in the future.
This system can automatically stop the train if it's going too fast or not following the signals correctly.
The report also says that there aren't enough trained loco pilots to drive all the trains that need to be driven.
The loco pilot deployed on the MEMU train failed the mandatory aptitude test on June 9, 2025.
The loco pilot lacked knowledge of rules and safety norms, as evidenced by his calls to his senior for guidance.
The CRS found deficiencies in the loco pilot's Certificate of Competency, indicating improper procedures were followed.
The CRS recommended the implementation of the Advanced Auxiliary Warning System (AAWS) to prevent future accidents.
There is a shortfall of 40 loco pilots who have passed the aptitude test in the SECR, affecting the safe operation of MEMU trains.
