Congress Criticizes Deep Rot in India’s Education System
Jairam Ramesh, a senior Congress leader, said that India’s schools and colleges have big problems.
He pointed out that the education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, resigned but that is just the start of fixing things.
Ramesh talked about a scam where exam centres were managed in a bad way in Maharashtra.
He also noticed that students who did well in a big entrance test didn’t do as well in their school exams.
He wonders if this is because of cheating or because many students go to private coaching instead of learning in school.
He said we need to look closely at the problem.
He also said a new law to speed up court cases about leaked papers would hurt the feelings of many young people who have protested for years.
Congress claims India’s education system is deeply corrupt, citing the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan as only the first step.
Jairam Ramesh highlighted a scandal involving managed exam centres in Maharashtra’s premier engineering institutes.
He noted a mismatch between Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MH‑CET) results and class‑12 board marks over the past three years.
Ramesh questioned whether coaching dominance or foul play caused the discrepancy and called for introspection.
He criticized a proposed law for fast‑track courts on paper leaks, saying it insults youth protests.
