Tea Board Updates Pest Management Rules for Tea Planters
Imagine tea farmers have a problem: bugs eating their tea plants!
The Tea Board, which helps tea farmers, released a new set of rules called the PPC.
This new version allows farmers to use different types of bug-killing stuff to protect their plants.
It includes new chemicals and natural bug fighters.
The goal is to protect the tea while also using fewer chemicals overall.
Even with these efforts, bugs and weather still cause problems for tea farmers, and tea production went down a little in 2024.
India is still a big exporter of tea, selling a lot to other countries.
The Tea Board released a new Plant Protection Code (PPC) with expanded options for planters.
The new PPC includes three new pesticides and four new bio-pesticides for pest management.
The code aims to reduce pesticide residue in tea and addresses industry constraints.
Tea production declined in 2024 to 1.28 billion kg due to adverse weather conditions.
India was the third largest tea exporter in 2024, shipping 254.67 million kg.
