Two Professors Arrested for Sexual Assault
A young student studying at a university in Tirupati has accused two teachers of sexually assaulting her and using personal photos and videos to blackmail her.
The police have arrested both teachers.
The student says the teachers scared her and threatened to share her private videos on social media.
The university is being criticized for not acting quickly when the student first reported the problem.
The government and women's rights groups are now involved to make sure the student is safe and the teachers are punished if they are found guilty.
The university has set up a committee to look into the matter, but some people believe the university should have done more to protect the student.
Two assistant professors at National Sanskrit University, Tirupati, were arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a female student from Odisha.
The victim, a 27-year-old B.Ed first-year student, accused the professors of using personal photos and videos to blackmail and intimidate her.
The student initially complained to the university management on November 24, and the police registered a case under the BNS Act.
The university constituted a four-member counselling committee to investigate the matter, but the student denies any consensual relationship with the accused.
Congress and YSRCP moved adjournment motions in Parliament to discuss the incident, and various commissions were notified to ensure justice for the victim.
