J&K Sees ₹43,000 Crore in Credit Disbursements
In the first half of the financial year 2025-26, over 10.07 lakh people in Jammu and Kashmir received loans worth ₹43,017 crore.
This was discussed at a meeting of the UT-Level Bankers' Committee, which was led by the chief secretary, Atal Dulloo.
Despite some challenges like a terror attack and floods, the banks have been doing well in giving loans to important areas like farming, housing, and education.
The chief secretary asked the banks to give more loans to these areas and to make sure that people in places without many banks can also get banking services.
He also told the banks to help more people join social security schemes like life and accident insurance, and a pension plan.
Over 10.07 lakh beneficiaries in J&K received credit assistance worth ₹43,017 crore in the first half of FY26.
The 17th UT-Level Bankers' Committee meeting reviewed the performance of banks in providing credit and banking services.
Despite challenges like the Pahalgam terror attack and floods, lending to the priority sector remained satisfactory.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo urged banks to focus on sectors like agriculture, housing, education, and social infrastructure.
Banks were directed to improve outreach in unbanked and under-banked areas and enhance enrolment in social security schemes.
