Taliban FM: Pakistan's Demands Unreasonable in Failed Talks
Imagine Afghanistan and Pakistan are like neighbors trying to sort out some problems.
The Afghan Taliban's top diplomat, Amir Khan Muttaqi, said that recent talks didn't go well because Pakistan asked for things that Afghanistan's government couldn't do.
Pakistan wanted Afghanistan to promise that no one would attack Pakistan from Afghan land, and they also wanted Afghanistan to move a group called the TTP, which Pakistan says is causing trouble, into Afghanistan.
Muttaqi said this is impossible and that Pakistan's problems with the TTP are really Pakistan's own fault because this group has been around for a long time.
He also mentioned that Pakistan has been flying drones into Afghanistan and that this needs to stop.
The Taliban official said they want to be good neighbors but need Pakistan to respect their country too.
Afghan Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi stated Pakistan's demands were unreasonable and infeasible, causing recent talks to fail.
Muttaqi rejected Pakistan's request for guarantees of peace within Pakistan and the relocation of the TTP to Afghanistan, calling it 'impossible'.
He asserted that Pakistan's internal security issues and the presence of the TTP are Pakistan's responsibility, predating the Taliban government.
The Taliban official accused Pakistan of 'provocations and violations of Afghan sovereignty,' including airstrikes and drone flights into Afghan territory.
Muttaqi reiterated Afghanistan's desire for peaceful relations based on mutual respect and warned Pakistan against shifting blame for its security challenges.
