Ladakh Faces Job Scramble: Thousands Apply for Limited Positions
In Ladakh, a large region with a small population, many people are looking for government jobs.
Recently, there were only 534 jobs available, but around 50,000 people applied!
This shows how much people want these jobs.
Before 2019, Ladakhis could compete for jobs alongside people from Jammu and Kashmir, but this changed when Ladakh became a separate territory.
Unemployment among young people has also increased a lot, making the competition even tougher.
Some people even spent a lot of money to apply.
The government has introduced new rules that will give preference to people who have lived in Ladakh for a long time when it comes to jobs.
The Leh Autonomous Hill Development advertised 534 jobs.
Approximately 50,000-60,000 people applied for the advertised positions.
Graduate unemployment in Ladakh jumped from 9.8% to 26.5% in a year.
Many residents seek government jobs due to limited private sector opportunities.
New regulations introduce a domicile-based job reservation system.
