Engineers, Postgraduates Join Odisha Home Guard
In Odisha, many young people with high qualifications like engineering degrees are joining the Home Guard, which usually only requires a 5th-grade education.
Over 10,000 people applied for the jobs, and 118 were chosen after 82 days of training.
Some of these new Home Guards want to eventually join the police or other services.
A police official said this shows how competitive the job market is and how young people want to serve their community.
For many, this is a step towards their dream of working in public service.
118 candidates, including 34 with engineering and postgraduate degrees, joined the Home Guard in Rourkela.
The Home Guard position requires only a Class 5 qualification, but over 10,000 applicants, many overqualified, applied.
The recruits completed 82 days of intensive training before their passing-out parade.
Many recruits see the Home Guard role as a pathway to future jobs in police or paramilitary forces.
The trend reflects the competitive job market and the aspiration of young people to serve in uniform.
