Uttar Pradesh Raises Panchayat Assistants’ Honorarium Amid Protest

Uttar Pradesh’s government said panchayat assistants will receive more money each month.

Their payment will increase from ₹6,000 to ₹9,000.

The money will be sent directly to their bank accounts.

Village heads and panchayat secretaries will no longer be able to remove them on their own.

A committee led by the district magistrate must first investigate a removal decision.

Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar made the announcement while assistants were protesting.

He also spoke about disagreements between political parties before the 2027 state election.

Rajbhar said the government had acted after a trader was killed in Gonda.
