Delhi Launches Lakshmi Yojana Offering Women Monthly Financial Aid
Delhi has started a new program called the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana.
It will give eligible women Rs 2,500 every month.
Women must be between 21 and 60 years old.
Rs 1,000 can be used through a digital wallet.
The other Rs 1,500 will be saved in a fixed or recurring deposit.
The savings could help women prepare for emergencies.
Some women said the money could help them buy personal items, pay medical costs or save.
Other women said better schools and hospitals would help their families even more.
Delhi launched the Lakshmi Yojana, a key BJP election promise, on Wednesday.
Women aged 21 to 60 will receive Rs 2,500 monthly from September 1.
The payment includes Rs 1,000 through a digital wallet and Rs 1,500 toward a fixed or recurring deposit.
The government said 9.22 lakh women registered and about 6.6 lakh submitted final applications by Tuesday.
Beneficiaries welcomed the support but some also urged improvements to schools, hospitals and public services.
