Tai-Ahom Community Demands ST Status in Assam Rally
People from the Tai-Ahom community in Assam are asking to be officially recognized as a Scheduled Tribe.
They held a big march with torches at night, chanting that they won't stop until they get this status.
Their leaders said they have waited a long time for the government, especially the BJP party, to keep a promise made in 2014.
They are so frustrated that they are threatening to not vote for the BJP in the next big election if their request isn't granted soon.
The Chief Minister has said that a report about giving this special status to several communities will be discussed in the upcoming government meeting.
Other groups in Assam are also asking for the same recognition.
These communities have a significant number of voters in some parts of Assam.
