Karnataka farmer couple commits suicide over debt in Mandya
Two farmers in Karnataka, Puttaswamy and his wife Nagamma, died by suicide.
They were 58 and 55 years old.
They lived in a village called Hatna Bevukallu in Mandya district.
They had five acres of farmland and borrowed about 10 lakh rupees from a bank.
Their crops failed because there was not enough rain.
Because of the crop failure, they could not pay back the loan.
The debt and the crop loss made them feel very stressed.
Police say the couple hanged themselves from a tree.
The state BJP leader B Y Vijayendra said the incident was very sad and wants the government to help farmers.
Puttaswamy (58) and wife Nagamma (55) hanged themselves in Hatna Bevukallu village, Mandya district, Karnataka.
They owned five acres of land and had a Rs 10 lakh loan from a bank.
