Indian Army Unveils Cold‑Resistant Xtreme Weather Diesel
The Indian Army and some oil companies made a new kind of diesel that works even when it’s very cold, like minus 42 degrees Celsius.
This fuel won’t get thick and clog the engine’s filters, so trucks and other vehicles can keep running in snowy or high‑altitude places.
The new diesel follows the same safety rules as regular fuel and can be used in the army’s current vehicles without any changes.
The army chief, Gen Dhiraj Seth, said it is a big, home‑grown invention that will help soldiers move faster and stay ready for missions.
He also said the fuel could help regular cars and trucks in cold regions, showing India’s push to make its own technology.
Indian Army and oil marketing companies jointly developed Xtreme Weather Grade diesel.
The fuel remains effective at temperatures as low as minus 42°C, avoiding filter clogging.
It meets BS‑VI and IS 1460:2025 standards and can be used in existing army vehicles without engine changes.
Army Chief Gen Dhiraj Seth called it a “game‑changing” indigenous innovation that boosts mobility and mission reliability.
The technology is also intended for civilian use in high‑altitude and severe winter regions, supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat.
