Ngozi Onwurah's 'Welcome II the Terrordome' Gets 2K Restoration

Ngozi Onwurah's debut film 'Welcome II the Terrordome' is getting a 2K restoration and will be released in U.S. cinemas.

The film, which was initially criticized for its dark themes of racism and state violence, has since been reappraised as a seminal work of Afrofuturist filmmaking.

Onwurah, who now lives in Los Angeles, reflects on her filmmaking journey, including her time at Saint Martins art school and the challenges of being a Black filmmaker.

The restoration process was unique because the original negative was lost, but Janus Films managed to restore the film from an old theatrical print.

Onwurah is also working on a new series about the Nigerian Biafra civil war for the BBC.
