Bamboo Rice May Ease Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms, Study Shows
Scientists found that bamboo rice might help with rheumatoid arthritis in a study on rats.
They gave rats with arthritis diets with bamboo rice flour and saw their paw swelling go down, their weight improve, and their spleens get better.
The bamboo rice seemed to reduce the inflammation and also reduced a marker of rheumatoid arthritis in the blood.
The researchers think the helpful effects come from compounds in the rice like flavonoids.
This means that eating bamboo rice could possibly help people with rheumatoid arthritis, but more research is needed.
The study was conducted on rats with induced rheumatoid arthritis.
Rats were given diets with bamboo rice flour for 55 days.
Bamboo rice reduced paw swelling and improved body weight in the rats.
Histological tests showed a reduction in inflammation in the ankle joints.
Gene expression analysis showed bamboo rice suppressed inflammation markers.
