BL Agro plans ₹1,500 crore cattle genetics investment

BL Agro Group wants to spend ₹1,500 crore to improve cattle breeding in India.

Its biotechnology subsidiary, Leads Genetics, would build several specialized laboratories and farms.

These facilities would study cattle genes and help produce embryos from high-quality animals.

The company says this could increase milk production and improve cattle health and fertility.

It also wants to focus on Indian breeds and animals that can better handle hot weather.

BL Agro is discussing the plan with governments in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.

The company recently showed a genetic testing chip designed for Zebu cattle.

It plans to produce up to 15,000 embryos each month by the end of 2027.

Company officials say the project could make India less dependent on imported high-quality cattle genetics.
