Grow Saffron at Home: Cultivating the Precious Spice
Saffron, the expensive spice, can be grown at home!
You can plant the bulbs (called corms) in pots on your balcony or windowsill.
Plant them in late summer or early autumn and make sure the soil drains well.
They need sunlight, but don't overwater them.
When the purple flowers bloom, carefully pick the red threads (stigmas) inside.
Dry them and store them to have your own stash of 'red gold' at home.
Saffron can be grown in small spaces like balconies and windowsills.
Saffron is the world’s most expensive spice because harvesting its stigmas is labor-intensive.
Corms should be planted in late summer or early autumn.
Use pots or grow bags at least 6 inches deep with well-draining soil.
Harvest the red stigmas when the purple flowers bloom.
