Bombay HC Orders Compensation, Rehabilitation for Sexual Assault Survivor
The Bombay High Court has ordered that a woman who was sexually assaulted should receive some money to help her right away, and more money later.
The court also asked for help to find her a job.
The court said the authorities should look at all the bad things that happened to her, not just check a list of 13 things.
The court wants to make sure she gets help and that her identity is kept private.
The next hearing will be in private, not open to the public.
Bombay High Court ordered interim compensation of Rs 1 lakh and final compensation of Rs 4 lakh for a sexual assault survivor.
The court directed the Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority to explore employment opportunities for the survivor.
Amicus Curiae argued against the rigid assessment of the 13-point criteria, advocating for a holistic view.
The court emphasized comprehensive support and privacy protection for the survivor under schemes like ‘Ek Sakhi’.
The next hearing is scheduled for January 9, 2026, and will be held in-camera.
