Anthropic Releases Cowork: AI Desktop Assistant
Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI, has launched a new feature called Cowork.
Cowork is like a smart helper for your computer.
It can do things like organize files, create spreadsheets, and even write reports all by itself.
You just tell it what to do in plain language, and it figures out how to do it.
Cowork is currently only available to people who pay for the highest level of Claude, called Claude Max, and it's only for Mac computers.
The company made Cowork in just about two weeks, using their own Claude Code tool.
Cowork is very careful with your files—it only works in folders you let it use and asks for permission before doing big things.
But, like any powerful tool, it can do things like delete files if you tell it to.
So, it's a big step forward in making AI more helpful, but there are still some safety things to work out.
Anthropic's Cowork is an AI desktop assistant that autonomously handles tasks like file organization and report generation.
Available as a research preview for Claude Max subscribers on macOS, with a waitlist for other users.
Cowork operates with high autonomy, planning and executing tasks, and providing progress updates.
Safety features include restricted folder access, permission requests, and defenses against prompt injection attacks.
Developed in 10–14 days using Anthropic's Claude Code, highlighting rapid AI development capabilities.
