Pune Residents Fearful as Trucks Defy Ban, Leading to Fatal Accidents
Imagine a busy street where big trucks aren't supposed to drive during the day, but they do anyway.
This is happening in Pune, India, where a woman was recently killed by a truck.
People who live there are scared to go outside because the trucks and other vehicles drive too fast and don't follow the rules.
Even though there is a ban, trucks keep entering the area, and the police don't always enforce the rules.
Construction is making things worse by causing debris on the roads.
More traffic from a new mall is expected to make things even more dangerous.
A daytime ban on heavy vehicles in Pune's Gangadham Chowk is frequently violated.
Deepali Soni was killed when a truck ran over her motorcycle in the area.
Residents report a lack of consistent traffic police presence and enforcement of rules.
Construction and encroachment by vehicles further contribute to dangerous road conditions.
A new shopping mall and multiplex are expected to increase traffic and safety concerns.
