FDA Study Finds Tampons Safe Despite Heavy Metals
The FDA did a big study on tampons to see if they have harmful metals like lead and arsenic.
They found tiny amounts of these metals in tampons, but the good news is that the amount that comes out when you use them is very, very small.
The FDA says it's not enough to hurt your health.
They tested lots of different tampons and even made the tests extra tough to see what would happen.
So, if you use tampons, you can feel a little better knowing that the FDA says they're safe.
But remember, no amount of lead is totally safe, so more research is needed to be super sure.
If you use pads instead, there's no strong evidence that they have harmful metals either.
Just remember to change them often and keep things clean!
The FDA tested 11 tampon products from six brands and found 19 metals, including lead, arsenic, and cadmium.
Trace amounts of heavy metals were detected, but the amounts released during use were extremely low.
The FDA concluded that the levels of heavy metals released do not pose a health risk based on current scientific evidence.
There is no strong evidence that sanitary pads expose users to harmful levels of heavy metals.
Good hygiene practices, such as changing tampons every 4-8 hours and washing hands, are recommended for safe menstrual product use.
