US Embassy Clarifies Visa Stay Rules
The US Embassy in India wants to make sure everyone knows that the date on your visa isn't what decides how long you can stay in the United States.
Instead, when you arrive, an officer from the US Customs and Border Protection will tell you how long you can stay.
You can check this information online using your I-94 Admit Until Date.
The embassy has shared this important message before, but they wanted to remind everyone again to avoid any confusion.
It's important to note that even with valid travel documents, customs officers can stop and search you.
If someone is wrongfully detained, the US Embassy will help them according to the law.
The US Embassy in India clarified that visa expiration dates do not determine the length of stay in the US.
Stay duration is decided by a US Customs and Border Protection officer upon arrival.
Visitors can check their I-94 Admit Until Date to know how long they can stay.
The advisory was previously issued three months ago via the Embassy's social media accounts.
The purpose of the advisory is to clarify common misconceptions about visa validity and stay duration.
