SEBI weighs asset disclosure for officials
The head of India's stock market regulator, SEBI, is thinking about a new rule that would require senior officials, including the chairperson, to share details about their money and debts.
A group suggested this idea to make things more transparent.
However, some officials are worried about their privacy.
The regulator is also looking at creating a single set of rules for all fund managers.
They will discuss this idea at their next meeting on December 17, 2025.
The idea came up after some people said a former leader had conflicts of interest, but both the leader and the companies involved said that wasn't true.
SEBI is considering a proposal to require senior officials to disclose their financial assets and liabilities.
The proposal aims to strengthen transparency and accountability, but officials have privacy concerns.
The SEBI board will consider the proposal at its next meeting on December 17, 2025.
SEBI is also discussing a uniform regulatory framework for all fund managers.
The proposal follows conflict-of-interest allegations against former chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch.
