Iran Strikes Two Tankers in Strait of Hormuz
Iran’s military group, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said it hit two oil ships that were trying to go through the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway that many ships use to travel between the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea.
The ships were stopped, and one of them caught fire.
Iran says it owns the strait and that other countries, especially the United States, should not interfere.
The U.S. was said to be providing air protection for the ships, but Iran said the ships were not following the official route.
Iran warned that any country helping the U.S. could face a strong response.
The incident shows how tense the area is, with Iran and the U.S. both trying to control shipping in the region.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed to hit two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
The tankers were described as non‑compliant and were brought to a halt, with one catching fire.
Iran says the strait is its territory and that the U.S. is interfering by providing air escort.
Four other tankers changed course and returned to their previous positions after the incident.
Iran warned that countries supporting the U.S. would face a harsh response.
