India's Pulses Import Value Plummets Due to Weak Demand
India is buying fewer pulses (like beans and lentils) from other countries.
This is because people in India aren't buying as much, and prices are going down worldwide.
From April to August, the amount spent on imported pulses dropped by a lot compared to last year.
Imports of many types of pulses, like urad and yellow peas, have decreased.
However, India did import more tur.
This year's local harvest might be affected by extra rain, possibly impacting crops like moong and urad.
India's pulses import value fell 52% during April-August.
August import value decreased by 64% compared to the previous year.
Imports of most pulses, excluding tur, decreased.
Weak demand and falling prices in producing countries are the main reasons for the decline.
Kharif pulses acreage in India is slightly higher.
