Tirupati Plans Greening Corporation to Reach 50% Green Cover
Tirupati district wants more trees and green spaces.
Green cover is currently 41% of the district, and the goal is 50% by 2047.
Officials plan to create a corporation to help organize planting and protect trees.
Trees may be planted on farms, near homes, along roads and in other places.
The plan also includes parks, better plant nurseries and restoring land damaged by mining or pollution.
The district aims to plant 53 lakh saplings this year.
Officials will use an app and location data to track planting and check whether trees survive.
Tirupati district plans a District Greening Corporation to raise green cover from 41% to 50% by 2047.
The corporation will coordinate planting and conservation across farms, homes, institutions, industries, roads and rural areas.
It will support urban green spaces, nursery accreditation, restoration of damaged land, tree relocation and technology-based monitoring.
The district needs an additional 70,000 hectares of green cover and aims to plant 53 lakh saplings this year.
Plans include avenue plantations along 300 kilometres of roads in three years and green development across 3,350 coastal hectares in five years.
