UC Santa Cruz Student Dies After Car Plunges Into Ocean

Alli Renee Singh was a 19-year-old student at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

She studied psychology and was preparing to begin her third year.

A car carrying Singh and a male driver went off West Cliff Drive and into the Pacific Ocean.

The vehicle landed upside down and was completely underwater.

Singh was trapped inside, while the driver escaped with minor injuries.

Four rescuers reached Singh and brought her to shore.

She was taken to a hospital but later died.

Police are investigating what caused the car to leave the road.

Reports also said erosion has made parts of the cliffside roadway more dangerous, although its role in this crash has not been established.
