High Court Admits PIL Against Jailing Minors
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has accepted a big case about children being sent to jail.
A lawyer named Vineet Kumar Jakhar said that some boards are sending children to jail for things like stealing or drug problems.
This is not allowed by the law, which says children should be helped and taught, not punished.
The court will now ask the government and other officials to explain why this is happening.
The next meeting about this case will be in February 2026.
The lawyer found out about this problem when he was helping a child who was sent to jail for three years.
He said it is wrong to put children in jail.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court admitted a PIL challenging the imprisonment of minors by Juvenile Justice Boards.
The petitioner, Advocate Vineet Kumar Jakhar, argued that such orders violate the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.
The court issued notices to the state governments, women and child development directorates, and the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.
The next hearing is scheduled for February 12, 2026.
The petitioner cited 19 orders as evidence, showing sentences ranging from six months to three years.
