Nepal's Ruling Party Blocks Former President's Political Return
Nepal's ruling party, CPN-UML, has decided that the former president, Bidya Devi Bhandari, cannot return to active politics.
They believe it is not right for an ex-president to be involved in party affairs.
Bhandari, who left her position in March 2023, had wanted to rejoin.
The party also made some changes to their rules, such as getting rid of the age limit and term limits for leaders.
This means the current party leader, K.P. Sharma Oli, can stay in his position.
CPN-UML blocked former President Bidya Devi Bhandari's return to party politics.
The party stated it was inappropriate for a former head of state to engage in a partisan role.
Bhandari, who retired in March 2023, expressed her willingness to re-enter politics.
The party also removed the age limit and term cap for leadership positions.
